About Us
Joe's Wooden Creations was started in January 2023 when a man decided to rekindle his love of woodworking.
However, starting meant he needed a place to work, and all he had was some outside space in the driveway with a tent overhead.
Luckily this driveway was fenced in for privacy! 😁
The journey began with the creation of a workbench out of pressure treated lumber and a few assembly tables using workhorses and scrap wood for a top. It was not pretty but it was functional. It took a few weeks to get the kinks out but once he did this, there was no stopping him from building furniture items.
So, what to build first? 🤔
More and more ideas began flowing in, and no matter where he went, he found inspiration and things he wanted to build.
He started with shoe rack/cubby for the mud room and, his family was very pleased with the details and finish of the project. He knew then that he was going to make this hobby into something bigger.
His first challenge was to find resources outside of the big box stores.
After researching many suppliers of wood, he determined that Upstate New York was the place to focus. He found Ghent Wood Products as the perfect source for rough sawn wood. With the addition of portable planer and jointer, he could now mill the wood to the exact dimensions needed.
The number of things he could build were now becoming a reality.
Properly stocked with wood, he began creating more things for the home like tables, raised panel doors, TV carts, and Adirondack chairs.
It shortly became time to try his hand at making some cutting boards and serving items, since he and his wife love to cook. However, his first customer did not make it easy. Being the woodworker’s daughter gives you some clout and she requested a chevron style cutting board. 😦
Studying how to do it was easy but when it came time to build it, many issues arose. Each issue posed many different concerns and a lot of head scratching. However, having a thorough understanding of shapes and geometry made things much easier. It turned out to be a pleasure attacking each one.
As you can guess, his daughter was very pleased and he then knew it was time to start creating more things like this that others would enjoy!
And, that is how Joe’s Wooden Creations LLC came about. 😄
